In plain words

By this way of proof stated in the two verses that begin “each different”, which works through agreement and difference, and likewise by the way of giving examples of dealings stated in the other verses, this too is to be understood: all dealings are experienced as resting in the all-pervading one, who is not bounded by space and time. For that very reason He is “inlaid”, that is, coloured without His becoming otherwise, with the of blue, pleasure and the rest, which are “utterly different”, given life by difference alone through the power of , like reflections, and present as nothing over and above Him. That is to say, experience itself is here the firmest . And it is experienced by those who have had instruction and are intent on attention, in such a way that for them the very state of dealings that is taken to be the state of is itself the plane of , whose nature is the coming to light of the truth of the . As has been said:

“attentiveness in the relation.”

For those who have not recognised the highest truth that is their , dealings are impure; for the others, those very dealings are pure. So, all is well.

Here ends the seventh , named The Account of the One Ground, in the first , the , of the composed by the venerable , foremost of the masters, together with the commentary called the , made by the venerable master .

Now, in the , the eighth , named The Account of the Great Lord’s Sovereignty, is begun.

We praise that who, by the force of dealings fully established through self-awareness, stands for ever established as the Great Lord of the perfected.

So, having explained knowing, remembering and exclusion, it has been set out by this much that without one ground for them dealings do not hold together.

“If there were not held within”

In this verse, what was said as “one” has been made good. By upholding inner , “who holds within Him the endless forms of the universe” has also been set out. And what was said in that same verse, “Great Lord”: that sovereignty of the Great Lord, whose form is , is now to be shown to hold. It is of two kinds, with knowledge for its domain and with action for its domain, since in this the Blessed One is knower and doer. And although the form of , whose self is and , is one alone, a single dense mass of , still for the sake of teaching this division is worked out within it. So the whose domain is the action that consists in knowing, though it has the form of the of action, is still to be settled in the itself, since knowledge is its domain. And in this way the meaning of the word “”, from its root and from its suffix, comes to be settled in full. Here, what is called knowledge is the awareness “I”, narrowed by being held to rely on the differences among that it has itself made different. The over the there is what comes to be the whose domain is the of knowledge.

“Dependent on the presence of the senses at that moment”

and so on, down to

“since the pure knowledge and action”
