In plain words
Knowledge is bondage. For this self, whose nature is the mind, the limited self: The knowledge whose form is the modes of determination and the rest, made of pleasure, pain and delusion, and which consists in making differences appear in keeping with them: that is bondage. For it is only because he is bound by it that he wanders in saṃsāra. As the Tantrasadbhāva says: "Abiding in sattva, abiding in rajas, abiding in tamas, the knower of the guṇas: so the embodied one roams, going from one place to another." This very point is restated in the Spanda teaching by: "Hemmed in by the puryaṣṭaka, which arises from the tanmātras and abides in mind, I-sense and intellect, he enjoys, under another's power, the experience that arises from it, born of notions; and because of that state he wanders in saṃsāra …" and, to counter it, by: "… therefore we declare the cause of the dissolution of this saṃsāra."
