The works of Ramaṇa Maharṣi

Upadeśa Sāram

Verse 22

In plain words

The body. The senses. The breath. The mind that is doing this sorting. And underneath, in dreamless sleep, a kind of dark that is still not nothing. None of them can know anything. That is the test, and every one of them fails it. What is left is the one item that was never on the list.

Word for word

Body, senses, breath, intellect and darkness are not I; they are the one Being's opposite, for they are inert and unreal.
