Upadeśa Undiyār

Verse 22

In plain words

Take the whole inventory. The body. The senses. The mind. The breath that keeps it going. And underneath all of them, in dreamless sleep, a kind of dark — the not-knowing that is still not nothing. None of it can know anything. That is the test, and every item fails it. So not one of them is what you mean by 'I'. What you mean by 'I' is the one thing on the list that isn't on the list: what is.

Word for word

Body, senses, mind, life-breath and darkness — all of them, because they are inert and unreal, are not the 'I' which is Being. Fly up, undī! Fly up, undī!
