Suppose we wish to plant some fruit tree in our backyard: at the very moment we bury the seed in the bed, it does not become a tree and give fruit. If it is to come to the stage where it gives fruit, we must first nourish and tend it in so many ways. Is it not only after we have tended and nourished it for many years that it lets us enjoy its fruit? In the same way, whatever task we wish to accomplish, we must first carry on, in due order, the karma fitting for its fruition. But if one gives up the karmas that must be done beforehand and wants the final fruit, it will not be gained, whatever kind of person one may be.
