In plain words

Standing on the bank of the Sarasvatī, longing, singing her praises, he prayed, and only her hand, full of bangles, appeared above the water. When he asked, ‘Am I not to have the good fortune of seeing your lotus face even for a minute?’ a voice without a body spoke. I show my face to none but Śrī Kṛṣṇa. In everyone there is the Rādhā principle, in everyone the Kṛṣṇa principle. Worship that, and you will gain the fruit.

Rather than lifeless images and pictures, think of living human beings themselves as God and worship them. Free of hatred and envy, love all and serve all. Śiva is in everyone. Whoever has no Śiva in him becomes a corpse, does he not? So remove entirely the idea that God is only in some Amarnāth, in Kāśī, in Bhadrācalam or in Tirupati; believe that He is all-pervading, the Indweller of all, the inner Ātma of all beings, and honour everyone with the feeling of God alone; the faith that Śiva pervades all must turn into your breath; you must behold that breath itself as your own svarūpa.

Night means what belongs with darkness; but if you drive away the darkness of Ajñāna, you can experience Ānanda in that very darkness. To teach that is precisely the purpose of Śivarātri.
