In plain words
Then, when it comes down as a flood, one branch comes along and joins that stream. In another forest, branches dry in the sun, soak in the rain, break in the wind and fall there. Branches like these are swept along in the rain-flood and end up in a great river. When they join it, caught in the force of the current, now and then they come together, now and then they drift apart. In just the same way, I am a branch from one house's tree, and he is a branch from another house's tree. These two branches have come together in this stream called life. But this stream flows into the ocean called Ānanda. Even if one branch is in one part of the ocean and another branch in another part, the ocean remains one and the same. So no parting in Ānanda comes to the two of us. These branches may dwell in different places, but the ocean called Ānanda is one and the same for all. So there is no need to brood over this,’ she said, admonishing the sannyāsī. Then this sannyāsī reflected within himself. Just as the prince had said, the Jitendriya kingdom, the Jitendriya king, the Jitendriya queen mother: this truly lives up to its name; thinking so, he left the clothes there and went back to his āśrama. After he got there, a resolve arose in him to test whether the principle of Jitendriya was there in the prince. As soon as he arrived: ‘My son, Kumār Rājā! Enemy kings have fallen upon your kingdom, taken it over, tormented your parents in many ways, and are driving them into the forests. They are beating and tormenting the people; so you go from here to the kingdom at this very moment,’ he said. Then the prince laughed: ‘Whose is the kingdom? Who is the king? No one has a bond of this kind. God is the Mahārāja. The Bhāgavatam is the crown prince. The devotee is the prince. Only such as these have a true bond. All kingdoms like these are like bubbles on water. They may be here today and gone tomorrow. So kingdoms that belong to the body are not true kingdoms. My father, crowned in the kingdom of the heart, and I: my father's principle and the son's principle too are one and the same; but with this body, father or son has no bond whatever with the principle of the Ātma; so the kingdom of us all is the empire of the Ātma alone,’ he said.
