In plain words

‘Yes! I have two sisters,’ he said. ‘Your sister, your mother, your mother-in-law: all of them are women, are they?’ he said. ‘Yes! How could they all be men instead of women?’ he answered. ‘Then do you treat all of them just the same at home?’ He asked. ‘Do you mistake your mother for your wife, and your wife for your mother?’ He asked; and the fellow shut his mouth. With that he stopped talking. So, of young people who do not understand what equality means, who use the word ‘equality’ about everything and roam about unchecked, we can only say that they are like sheep run wild. So we must recognise Advaita in the principle of the Ātma alone; but to recognise Advaita in other matters, we cannot walk a path contrary to the character of this duality, of Prakṛti. Our bulbs each have their own voltage strength. But we must recognise the truth that the differences here are differences in the bulbs alone, not a difference in the current. A person who has recognised the principle of this current can himself state clearly the truth that the difference is in the bulbs and not in the current; but fools who do not know the principle of the current set about arguing, ‘Here there is less light, there there is more light; if it is one and the same current, why should there be these differences in the light?’ So the power of God is like a current. Our bodies are like bulbs. Our faith in the Ātma is like the subtle instrument that delivers the current to the bulbs. But we must make the effort to develop this cit-śakti that is in our bulbs; there is no need to try to change the current. However great our faith is, its unfolding and its radiance will be in keeping with it. There is all the water you could want in the ocean, but we can bring back only as much water as the vessel we took will hold. By our practising this sense control, the heart grows vast. Given over to the senses, the unfolding of our heart keeps growing very small. A small example of this.
