In plain words
We must become people who win a good name with the five prāṇas, like the Pāṇḍavas — we, the young.
The Tongue Is Chief: Use It with Care
To serve society with your sacred feeling and become worthy of the grace of the Lord of all, this sense control is most necessary. Yesterday I said that among these senses the tongue is very much the chief. Not using too much speech with the tongue, not drawing ourselves into needless words, we must set about giving that sacred tongue work, as far as we can, only in sacred teachings. I may have told you many times. The patience the tongue has, nothing else has. The forbearance the tongue has, no other sense has. The dignity the tongue has, nothing else has. The spirit of sacrifice the tongue has, no other sense has. When we defile such a sacred tongue, we become people who have defiled life itself. We may reflect for once on how nimbly our tongue speaks, with great care and with patience. If it strays from its way even a little, harm comes to it. Though enemies who can do it harm are all around, it moves about with such great patience and care. In the same way, though enemies are all around us, we must lead our life with patience, with courage, and with the skill and strength to slip away from them. Now, the sacrifice the tongue makes. If it comes upon some fine, tasty dish: ‘This is tasty; this I do not need. I will send it to the digestive fire,’ and it sends it on to the stomach. If the taste itself is bad, it hands it over to Mother Earth as not wanted. Then, as for dignity: it moves with dignity in its own home alone, and it has no habit of wandering from house to house like the dogs. A tongue with such dignity, through the tongue's good and sweet words, wins for that jīva too the well-earned name, ‘He is like Paśupati.’ And if with that tongue we speak words that hurt others, if we speak words that wound others, through that it brings that jīva the name, ‘This one is like a beast.’ So the root cause of our getting a good name or a bad name is the tongue itself.
