In plain words
Yet without those very aids at the start, we cannot learn to swim. So, at the very beginning, we may keep some one support in the heart, an idol, or a photo, or a sound, some mother as divine or fathers as divine, and step by step fix our aim on the Ātma principle, which is changeless, sacred, all-pervading and one. It is because there is a mirror, is it not, that we are able to see a reflection. Without a mirror we cannot see the reflection. As long as there is the state of that reflection and you, this is nothing but Dvaita. But between the original and the reflection there is the thing called the mirror. Take that mirror away, and there is no reflection, no mirror. You alone become one. This itself, they said, is Advaita. In the same way, taking a support now and seeing your reflection through it, and then putting the support away, you can set about experiencing the oneness of the original and the reflection in sāyujya, the great causal body. But, joined with the world and together with saṃsāra, we must make the effort fitting to show forth the Paramātma principle within the oneness of these three: the world, saṃsāra and oneself. Man cannot stand all by himself, alone, merely like a drop of oil fallen on water. Those without whom one would have no birth, those who are one's support: once born, we must please them in a fitting way. First you; after you, your family; after your family, society. We must recognise the divinity in the oneness of these three: society, family and oneself. If society itself is not there, there is no family at all. If the family itself is not there, there is no individual at all. Whatever would be the cause of one's ceasing to be, society is the cause for both; so we must behold the embodiment of Saccidānanda within society. The river called the individual fills the tank called the family and through it merges in the lake called society. So, not thinking of life merely as a solitary life, we must believe the truth that the All-pervading One called divinity is present everywhere, and through it make the effort to bring our life into it.
