Passage 4

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

All the limbs of God are lotuses, every one: the lotus face, the lotus eyes, the lotus heart and the rest. That is why, whatever God does, the stain called vāsanā for the objects of the senses does not cling to it. Vision free of fault, a steady heart: these are the signs of Divinity. Grease that sticks to the hands goes only when you wash it off; but however greasy the food you eat, that grease does not cling to the tongue. For that very reason, the tongue alone has the right to dwell on the Name of the Paramātma. In the same way, kohl does not cling to the eyes. Such vision stays pure. Jñāna has the meaning of sight too, as in “Advaitadarśanaṃ jñānaṃ”. So we cannot but say that sight is full of Jñāna; this teaches another lesson. When someone stands in front of us, we can see their image in our eyes, and our image in their eyes. That is, here the eye is like a mirror. In the same way, to see God we must earn the eye of Jñāna.

To see the worlds, we must open our eyes. In the temple we look at God, then close our eyes and bow. What is the inner meaning of this? That the karmendriyas are of no use; only the jñānendriyas can show God. Everything seen with the eyes of skin is Asatya: only when you see with the eyes of Jñāna can you recognise the very form of Satya.

When you win Swami's grace, the infinite universe itself is yours. Do not turn your Buddhi toward things on the surface. Such people can turn into atheists — when I, the priceless diamond, am here, why do they scramble after things that are worthless and fleeting? Ask for Me alone. If you ask with Prema and with Bhakti, I shall surely be yours. There is no fault in accepting what Swami gives in His grace; it is even necessary.

I want to tell you a few things about My divine principle. Now and then I ask after the welfare of the devotees who come for My darśan, and give them Śānti through My words. Along with this, I give them many things — rings, lockets, strings of beads; all these are only signs that I am with you. You must not set a price on them. Even without them, I am with you, beside you. But you may ask what they are for. In a way, when some danger comes to you, these signs bring it to My notice at that very instant. At once I ward off your dangers. This is precisely the secret in them. In a way, they are ‘links’ between you and Me. These talismans are protecting many lakhs of people.

But it is not to do these tiny little things that I have come down. I have come to carry out many mighty tasks; to uplift the world of men; to lead all men on the path of Satya, Dharma, Śānti and Prema and bring them to the goal. In this work I fear no one; there is no need for Me to fear. Since everything rests on Satya, and since I am the embodiment of Satya, I yield to no one.
