In plain words
Otherwise it will then turn into a cattle pound. In this college discipline and dedication are held to be the chief things. When these two are there, responsibility is there without fail. The teachers and students of this college can without fail rise to a high state in their lives. All of you have pure and tender feelings. If spiritual thought is awakened in you, you will surely come up in life. You are like tender creepers. If these creepers are to grow in full beauty, the teacher must tend them well. The classes, marks and ranks you win in examinations are good; but your lives become worthwhile only when you put Swami's ideals too into practice along with them. So I hope that you will join spiritual learning to worldly learning and learn them together.
Students and teachers must without fail keep to the ideals of Brindavan and live by them. If not, there is no need to be afraid of anyone, whatever has to be done here. This college was not started with an eye to making money. Remember this well. Our chief aim is this alone: that the path of Satya must be followed. If we think it necessary, we will not hesitate even to turn this college wholly into a spiritual institution.
The students in other colleges do not behave in a way worthy of that name. You must not behave like them. Even when you go to your villages, you must prove by your conduct that you are true students. Not only in the classroom but outside too, wherever you may be, your conduct must be exemplary. You must not roam the streets shouting like drunkards. Your conduct, your words and your feelings must be pure. You must not do Sarasvatī pūjā at home and then, outside the home, behave in a way that goes against it. That amounts to insulting the goddess Sarasvatī herself.
We hope that those who finish their studies in this college and go on to higher studies will create the atmosphere of Brindavan in the new institutions they join and among their fellow students, and come back here again. None of them should think that their bond with this college is cut off here and now. Though you are far away in body, think of yourselves as being right there in Brindavan in your minds; and wherever you are, look on your very hearts as Brindavans and your very ideals as the gopikās.
New students must keep discipline well. You all know the proverb, “Unless it bends as a sapling, it will not bend as a tree.” By your conduct you must win honour for your parents and become a cause of pride to them. Remember that food is for hunger, not for taste or to satisfy the craving of the tongue. If you meet with any difficulties, treat them too as a lesson.
