But if you think that it is these alone that cured the disease and healed the illness, that is a mad delusion! If it were true that health is won through doctors and medicines, all who have passed away would still be alive! Well then, turn it round: do these doctors themselves live even in the way they advise people to? No! All the bad habits that they teach others will ruin health have grown strong in themselves, and their conduct has become a laughing-stock. The ones who teach that if you take intoxicants the strength of mind and the strength of body are ruined very quickly are the doctors themselves! Yet among those who use them, they themselves are the greater number! Because the doctors themselves take the wrong road in their ways of eating and living, they lay themselves open to the charge that they are no true guides!
Today, in the field of the divine, in the spiritual field and in the worldly field as well, there are no leaders who can show the way; this alone is the root cause of the country's pitiable state. “What we say is one thing. What we do is another”: those who talk as if to say this have grown many, but in practice there is nothing;
Embodiments of the divine Ātma! This life of ours is God's gift, and this body came to us through the special merit of past births; do not think they are meant for pleasures and riches and waste them, but use them for yoga and tyāga alone, and so give them their full meaning. Do not work for the praise of others; strive for the contentment of the Ātma! What matters is not offering to others; you must make an offering of yourself. The contentment of the Ātma may be the goal at the start; but keep in mind that the destination is the vision of the Ātma alone. The troubles and losses, the blame and harsh words that come up now and then and stand in your way, are simply of no importance. Even longing for the Ātma is just the same as longing for oneself, the Paramātma. So the very longing is needless. All that you need, God Himself will provide.
