In plain words
They pour out all their learning only to earn money, but they make no effort at all for the welfare of the country. Such learned people are of no use at all to the country. Because learned men who fill their own bellies, support their own families and chase after their own name and fame have grown so many, the holy culture of our Bhārata has dwindled today.
There is no quality higher than renunciation. Renunciation is like the emperor among all the qualities. It is with this in view that the Upaniṣads say, “Na karmaṇā na prajayā dhanena, tyāgenaike amṛtatvamānaśuḥ.” So you must become one given to renunciation, hand on to the children the learning you have earned with a holy feeling, and thereby keep seeking the well-being of the country. With such holy purity of citta, Sathya Sai Bal Vikas gurus can labour to the utmost to develop the nature of students whose hearts are pure and steady. They will hope for growth. I firmly believe too that they will toil and give the country a great result as well. Beginning such a programme today, and taking right decisions in the discussions we must hold today and tomorrow: I hope that you will all strive to put those decisions not merely on paper but into practice. With My blessings, I bring My talk to a close.
