In plain words
That is the stream. Offering these tears of Ānanda to God is what we call water. Instead, we waste our time in the name of japa and dhyāna. What kind of japa do we do? We set ourselves down to japa right beside the kitchen. We do dhyāna beside the kitchen. While we sit in dhyāna, all the smell of the frying comes in. ‘What's this! The fry is burning, look!’ we say. And on we go with japa. Is this our dhyāna? Why are we doing dhyāna?
Instead of giving our time to this kind of dhyāna, we must put this time to good use in service. So I hope, and I bless you, that our Sathya Sai organisations will go to every village, find out what the problems in those villages are and what work the people there need, offer them at least some part of what we earn, and enter on the path of bringing contentment to the poor in those villages. Service to society, service to society, service to society: that itself is service to Viṣṇu, that itself is service for the good of the universe. ‘The Puruṣa has a thousand heads, a thousand eyes, a thousand feet’: all this is the cosmic form, is it not! The cosmic form does not mean thinking that God once showed something or other. Is not all this in Guntur today the cosmic form? This is the real thing. Every single head is the form of God. Every single hand is the hand of God. So service of man must become service of Mādhava. Without the feeling of Mādhava, service of man is simply wasted. So people also regard placing the divinity of Mādhava within man, and serving through it, as a kind of service of Mādhava. So whomever you serve, hold the feeling ‘I am doing this for my own divinity.’ Not ‘I am the body’, not ‘I am the jīva’, but ‘I am Brahman’. So when you reduce step by step both feelings, ‘I am the body’ and ‘I am the jīva’, and serve in the feeling ‘I am the Ātma’, everything gains its purpose. You need not cook on a grand scale for a thousand people. Nor need you hold a feast for the multitude. If you feed one hungry man till his stomach is full, how much joy there is! Enough. So God never looks at quantity. He looks at quality. So I hope, and I bless you, that if we wish to satisfy divinity and bring calm to our life, we will make our life fulfil its purpose with Prema, with sacrifice, on the path of hurting no one's heart in our service to society; and hoping and blessing you that you will regard this temple today simply as a symbol of the temple of our heart, build this visible temple within our heart, regard that as the true emblem of divinity and rejoice, I bring My discourse to a close here.
