In plain words
All of you know that Kāmāvadhāni lives here in our Prasanthi Nilayam. From dawn until night, his one aim is the study of the Vedas. He is now eighty-nine years old. From the day he was born until today, from dawn until night, he has done nothing but study the Veda, and knows nothing of worldly matters, poor man. What a Kāmāvadhāni! Learning must, in some measure, be well balanced in the world as well: in the physical, the worldly, the dhārmic and the spiritual, in all of them alike.
Today these scientists are reaching very high levels in physical and worldly matters. But they make no effort at all to recognise even a little of the divinity in humanness. In them too, general knowledge is gradually becoming zero. It is because of this that problems of many kinds are multiplying in the world. A small example. Two months ago there was an earthquake in Mexico. What is the reason such earthquakes come? Because these scientists and engineers went on digging and digging into the earth for oil, the inside became hollow. The earth is like a ball. No change must come to its balance. Tomorrow is Saṅkramaṇa. What does it mean? The sun is entering upon the line of Capricorn. We must recognise its inner meaning. The earth turns round itself and goes round the sun. It takes a year to go round the sun. If the earth turned in the right position, day and night would be of equal length. Before this the days were short and the nights long. From tomorrow the days grow longer and the nights shorter. What is the reason for this? If the earth went on turning in the right position, the time of each would be equal. But because the earth is a little bent and tilted, all these differences arise. In Mexico they have made the whole inside of the earth hollow, for this oil. And it is engineers, too, who built huge buildings on the earth's surface.
