Passage 22

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

That there are so many people today means the population is growing. Desires are growing. If in those days it was "sahasraśīrṣāḥ puruṣaḥ", today the heads of crores must become one. Today there is no such cooperation. It is all operation, operation. Where is cooperation? There is no friendship at all between one and another. These seventy-eight crores, one with another, 1+1+1+…. I+YOU, I+YOU: if we go on like this, how much work could we achieve? As for why, in ancient times, the Indra yajña, the Sūrya yajña, the Candra yajña spoken of in the Veda were performed: it was not to waste all that ghee. Candramā manaso jātaḥ, cakṣo sūryo ajāyata. Its meaning is: let all eyes become one and look with an equal vision. All minds must become one. The Indra yajña means that all hands must become one. When unity comes in this way, we can achieve any measure of divinity. It is only because there is no unity today that enmity is growing.

Our university has its campuses in Puttaparthi, in Bangalore and in Anantapur. If all work together, we can give and receive any measure of glory, any breadth of feeling, any amount of service. I am telling you one thing more. Swami has no desire of any kind. Only the welfare of the universe, the welfare of the world. Lokāḥ samastāḥ sukhino bhavantu. All must be happy. Keeping this as the aim, so as to keep the children under proper control and show them the right path, we have decided that from this coming June education will be free, that is, given without money of any kind. There is nothing like this anywhere in the world. In all our institutions of learning, free education. That is, we shall not take from them any tuition charge, games charge or medical charge, nothing at all. More than that, free education from primary school right up to the Ph.D. The result for us of doing this is not income, not a great name; it is that the children will be under our control.
