In plain words
The sun seems gentle now; the days have all grown short; the cold wind sharpens its bite; in the fields, by the dim moonlight of night, the farmers at the threshing heaps lift their voices and begin to sing their songs; yellow flowers on the hemp fields string garlands of pearls; the chillies, ripened, take on a vermilion glow; the marigolds open their faces wide; the wealth of grain stands in our homes; the lovely festival of Sankrānti has come.
The festival of Sankrānti, with its many kinds of material wealth and the beauty of nature, gives man joy. That is why Sankrānti is a most important holy day for the people of Bhārata. It is the month of the journey towards God. The northern direction means towards the Himācala. Hima means that which is pure. That which is full of coolness. Acala means that which does not move. The level of the heart that is pure, unmoving and full of peace is what is called Himācala. The one who dwells in such a heart is Īśvara. That is why it is said, "Īśāvāsyam idaṃ sarvam": Īśvara dwells in all. "Īśvaraḥ sarvabhūtānām": Īśvara alone dwells in all, they have said. So the dwelling of Īśvara is in our own heart. The day we drive away our bad qualities, our bad feelings and our bad ways, that day our heart becomes pure. Every man must develop a pure heart. He must remove fickleness and make the heart clean. He must give up selfishness and nourish a selfless purity. He must not grow proud through a small mind. He must keep the Prema of God and faith in Him hidden in his heart.
