Passage 1

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

By the mind beings are born again; by the mind beings vanish away; by the mind one wins Dharma, artha, kāma and Mokṣa; by the mind steadfastness in yoga reaches fulfilment.

Teachers! Students!

Every human being must, without fail, enquire with a broad outlook into the law of thought and into actions; this is most essential. Only when he recognises the law of thought in this way can a human being enjoy a happy life, a life of Śānti. Only when he understands the mind's law in this way can all the powers within a human being be put to good use. Only when he rightly understands the law of thoughts can a human being beat back adverse thoughts. A fish escapes danger precisely by swimming against the current. In the same way, only when a human being develops good thoughts that oppose adverse thought does he stay far from danger in his life and close to Praśānti. A boat that travels on the sea has a thing called a compass. By relying on this compass, the travellers reach the destination they must reach in safety. When there is no compass, the wind turns the boat aside somewhere, it strikes an iceberg or a rock, and these bring it to many kinds of hardship and loss. In the same way, only when a human being, travelling on this ocean of worldly life, uses the instrument called the steady mind in the proper way can he reach the right destination. Without that steady mind, his journey falls into many kinds of danger.

A person's face is the very seal of the mind. It is its very reflection. It is the photograph of this mind. That is why every single thought a human being forms in the mind is displayed on this face of his.
