To a man with purity of citta all knowledge comes of its own accord
The human body is very hard to come by. So man must recognise that to fill it with Dharma is his own sacred duty. This is the modern age, a time when technology and the sciences flourish. Every man, though he is only one, has to take part in daily life in activities of many kinds. Though this is something everybody knows, the people of today pay it little heed. In daily life one and the same man has to behave in one way with one person and in another way with another. In one place he may be a son to one person, a father to another, the husband of another, the master of yet another. In one place he has to behave as a guru, with another as a disciple. In behaving like this, one and the same man puts on many guises and conducts his life to suit the different occasions. When he speaks with his wife, he shows his manner of speech and the turn of his mind in one way. When the same person speaks with his mother, the turn of his mind, his conduct and the cast of his words appear different. With his friend and with his enemy the same person behaves in different ways and uses his speech in different ways. Man is one; what then is the inner meaning of his behaving in such varied ways in his speech and in his conduct? This is what is called the mental atmosphere, or environment. Not only according to a man's value, but in keeping with his atmosphere too, one has to behave like this, to deal like this. If we are to change our conduct in many ways while dealing with different people in different places, discerning knowledge is most necessary for it.
