In plain words
Only to what already exists does he give the forms he has conceived, and he goes on proclaiming different paths.
There is fire in water. But the scientist, by the power of his science, makes even electric power flow from it. But this electric power is not something this scientist created. This is a power that lay unseen and hidden; he has gone on bringing it into the open. If this electric power were not in the water itself, he could not create it at all. Today the people who bring out the principle that lies hidden and secret in every substance have grown many. Taking this as the basis, we believe that science is growing abundantly. But it is Ajñāna for man to fancy that in this production he has, on his own, created what did not exist. Deep down in the earth there is water. But this scientist brings up the water that is there with technology. But it was there already; he did not create the water specially or anew. Nor can he destroy the basic element that exists. Neither this destroying nor building is in man's hands. Only when every individual recognises this divine principle can we understand the truth that this divinity pervades everywhere. Matter can never be created nor can be destroyed. We think that this creating or destroying is simply being done by man. These are only man's schemes.
Such divinity has remained invisible to us from the beginningless past. The power of attraction is natural to the earth. But Newton, by his researches, went on making it known. This power of attraction was in the earth even before Newton announced it. In the same way, though the power of God is everywhere, hidden and secret, people are able to realise it, each through the wealth of his own sādhana. We think of mankind as though it were many tribes, many religions, many castes, many colours. All these are only man's delusions. As long as delusions of this kind are in man, he cannot see Brahman. Satya is one. But surely no one can limit this Satya at all to one country, one time, one tribe, one caste, saying, ‘This is the Satya of the brahmins, the Satya of the Kṣatriyas, the Satya of the Bhāratīyas, the Satya of the Americans, the Satya of the Russians’!
