Passage 3

In plain words

In the same way with the principles of fire and water too: there is surely no such difference in them as ‘This is the brahmins' fire, this is the Śūdras' fire, this is the Kṣatriyas' fire, this is the Bhāratīyas' fire, this is the foreigners' fire’! What is the Gaṅgā's caste? What is the air's caste? We all enjoy them, do we not? In just the same way, though divinity is oneness, through our delusions we divide it into diversity and experience it only in delusion. It is simply this: we must never measure divinity against country, religion and time.

Look at the case of Kṛṣṇa. What tribe did Kṛṣṇa belong to? This was not a family deity of the brahmins. It was not a treasure of the Kṣatriyas. For the Vaiśyas it was not some fortune. This was a form that descended for the protection of the world. To think, ‘Kṛṣṇa is yours, Kṛṣṇa is mine,’ is merely a kind of possessiveness, a kind of attachment. Just because they thought, ‘Kṛṣṇa is ours alone,’ the pestle was born among the Yādavas, and all the Yādavas perished. So God belongs to all. He does not belong to any one person alone. What exists is one. God is one alone. This one God takes many forms and goes on satisfying many kinds of fancies. If we are to understand such divinity, it is not sādhana alone; enquiry too is essential.

Today those who encourage diversity and those who develop it are growing in number. They keep regarding oneness as manyness. That is why divinity is sinking still deeper down. Through worldly infatuations and dealings they keep dividing this divinity into separate pieces. Because of this very thing, men cannot recognise the true principle of divinity. And so they cannot tell what is Dharma and what is Adharma. In whichever land the deity of Dharma and the deity of Śānti glow with radiance, in that very land prosperity ripples with laughter. Today, against Dharma and against morality, basing themselves on community, they are fostering many kinds of unrest in the land. Many elders are looking on at the people who foster such Adharma. Jñānīs and scholars too are watching this. Officials in the very highest positions too are watching this. But no one at all is able to check it. They cannot stand up to it as Adharma.
