Passage 10

In plain words

Clearing it is also a mantra-yoga. This is what they think in Bhārata. Oṃ namo nārāyaṇāya, they call the eight-syllable name. Our faith is that by chanting the name, Nārāyaṇa's grace is gained. Our life is like a great stream. If this stream has no banks, it will drown the country in every way. The place that welcomes and receives this stream to some extent is the ocean called Grace. If it is to go and enter this ocean, this stream must have banks on that side and on this side. On the one side, that bank is Saṃśayātmā vinaśyati. This is an eight-syllable name. On the second side, Śraddhāvān labhate jñānam: this is an eight-syllable name, on the other side. That is, when we grow in both, in rooting out doubt and in fostering śraddhā, we need not fear these ups and downs. Our life will go direct and merge with God. How are we to develop this śraddhā? How are we to root out this doubt? We must find out about that; so, when the right need arises, I hope and bless that we will consult on it, clear our doubts, experience this Ānanda and raise our enthusiasm and encouragement for the programme still to come; and I bring My talk to a close.
