In plain words
So now, first of all, we must go on teaching these children the Satya connected with the body-minded outlook.
Then, in South Africa, owing to certain conditions, the atmosphere is now somewhat against this education in Human Values. So for the present it is good for us in South Africa gradually to develop, with no link with the government, what relates to Bal Vikas for our devotees. Some teachers asked, ‘Up to what age is it good to put these boys and girls together in Coeducation and teach them lessons?’ This Coeducation, whether in our Sathya Sai Balavikas or in Human Values: My view is that it is good to put the two together and teach them only from 5 up to 12 or 14 years. For since the teachers of this Bal Vikas are, to a great extent, mostly women, women cannot check the ways of these growing children. So, after they pass 12 or 14 years, it is good to set the boys apart and the girls apart, and have men teach the boys and women teach the girls. For girls too, there is room for men teachers to teach. The reason is that growing boys pay no heed to women's words. They do not have even a little fear of them. So, along with humility, fear and faith, fear too is needed. So, as for this, it is good to put these children with men teachers alone and have them practise to some extent.
Above all, there is one among the matters most doubted. That is: how are we to teach? This is what some of them asked. Some are disabled in body. They are slow-witted children. ‘How are we to teach such children?’ they asked. To ask how we are to teach slow-witted children is, in My view, a lack of wit in themselves. When even those who have wit cannot understand our education in human value, what use is there in our teaching those who have no wit? So first let us build up a fitting security among these people who have wit. For children without wit, we must try to teach them stories of God well, in a way that cheers them, as little stories. To these disabled children and slow-witted children we must tell stories so that they forget this disabled state of theirs. ‘My dear! You need not think at all about your disability.
