In plain words

We must not take the path of pleasing them for the moment with some stories or other, because they like them. These give passing delight and excitement, but they cannot bring into them in the least the divinity that is lasting, true and eternal. To describe divinity through the Purāṇas and holy stories is the way of those who tell the Purāṇas. But those who have taken sannyāsa must strive to experience for themselves the divinity that is eternal and true, and to share it with others.

The Bhagavad Gītā must be given to society as a book to be practised and lived

For many years great souls who have written much commentary have gone on preaching and teaching the principle of the Bhagavad Gītā. They go on studying it. But if one asks how far they have achieved it, what change has come about in them, not one in a hundred, not one in a crore is to be found. Let it be only ten of us, it does not matter: those who practise are enough. “A ladleful of a good cow's milk is enough; why a potful of a donkey's milk?” The work we must begin today: trusting the Bhagavad Gītā as a book to be practised and lived, practising it and rejoicing in it, we must strive to give it to society. Sādhus must try to make the principle of the Gītā bear fruit in their practice. It is for this that you have taken up the staff, the water-pot and the ochre robe. It is for God that you have had your heads shaved. So you must hold it as your chief aim to recognise the bond between God and you, and to live by it.
