In plain words
One day good fortune, another day disease: I have watched those who live through them. One day renunciation, another day enjoyment: I have watched those who live through them. One day wealth, another year want: I have watched those who live through them. One day sorrow, another day happiness: I have watched those who live through them. Here there is nothing that stays firm. Do not delight in what does not last; true and eternal, Jñāna, without end, know the principle of the Ātma, O noble ones! Learning for a living you study by the score, and with devotion; for the learning of Mukti, who comes forward? Can such a man learn to know God? Whatever learning he has, what fruit does it bear?
Embodiments of the divine Ātma!
