Passage 9

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

Every single feat they performed gave joy, each one outdoing the one before. Is there not even that much unity in our Institute? What are the officers doing about this? What did I give them authority for? What is the work they do? Coming in at bhajan time, ‘burr’, and off up again, ‘sarr’! Is this the work they should be doing?

Teachers must take great care not only over games but in their teaching too

“How are the students faring, how are we to shape them into an example, what close bond should there be between this professor and the students, how are we to shape them”: they have no such thought at all. The students have lost faith in the professors. The professors have lost trust in the students. If there is no bond of any kind between them like this, how can this Institute be run? If each one is given his own responsibility, the Registrar the Registrar's work, each professor his own subject, the physical instructors what belongs to them, and things are decided like this through a few committees, how smoothly it will go! Not only in games but in teaching too you must take great care.

For a marriage or for a fight, the two sides must be equal

Now let us take Whitefield. There is no physical director in Whitefield. The students, poor things, struggled on their own, put one another right among themselves, and came to these contests. How can we bring ourselves to hold such contests? What is more, there are only undergraduate students at Whitefield. They brought those students and set them against the post-graduates. Why could they not give it even this much thought? If those students lose, how much it pains me! Merely to think, ‘Our Prasanthi Nilayam students have won, they have won!’ is a disgrace. For older students to win by playing small ones is a most shameful thing.
