In plain words

At this age it is most necessary for us to practise it, step by step, in the spirit of offering it to God. This is very much like a foundation. Only when this foundation is firm does the building called the future gain security. If we do not lay this foundation in the right way, the building may collapse at any moment. This brahmacarya āśrama is like a foundation for life. It is most necessary for us to regard it, from this day on, as offered to God, and to nurture it. It is most necessary for us to search for God from now on. Some day, after you retire, after old age has come, there will be no more work then. If you think you can sit doing japa then, it is not possible.

When the servants of Death pull the noose, crying ‘Come, come!’, when kinsmen say, ‘Put him out at once, there is no use now’, when wife and children weep aloud, can you then speak the Name of Hari with your lips?

Oh, we’ll see to this Name later! Wife and children! Don’t cry. If you say, ‘Yamadharmarāja, stay a little way off, I have to do my japa,’ will he let you go? He will never let go. We must begin from this very day. Only then will that Yamadharmarāja be unable to come near. You may have a doubt: is there really anyone called Yamadharmarāja? Yama is none other than Kāla. That Kāla is time. That is, time itself is our Yamadharmarāja. Time comes and drags us away.

So we ourselves are putting our nooses on ourselves. Yamadharmarāja has no Rope factory to make nooses for so many crores of people in the world. We ourselves make the ropes, our own merits and sins. With those nooses we bind ourselves. The messengers carry off only what we ourselves have bound. So our evil deeds and our sacred deeds become the root cause of this. That is why God Himself draws into His presence the man who has controlled his senses. For one drawn so close, God Himself is the treasure. Through His presence one can enjoy the treasure that is God. But this treasure, this presence, is nothing but control of the senses. So one who has control of the senses can easily win śama over.
