Passage 1

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

Humanness means that mind, word and deed stand all together as one; if the mind holds one thing, and word and deed are each apart, what worth is there?

Officers of education! Teachers of learning! Students!

Life is most sacred. It is precious. It is worth living. Humanness is the union of body, Manas and Ātma. What does the deeds is the body. What knows is the Manas. What is, is the Ātma. This very Ātma is the divinity that dwells in our heart. Our life is the bringing into expression of the principle of the three powers called doing, knowing and being. For man to understand its principle is the principle of humanness. The one that does, the one that knows and the one that is are each different, yet all these together shape man into fullness. Because the Manas carries out various actions in various movements and along various paths, this very thing has come to be called by the name antaḥkaraṇa. Because it goes with saṅkalpa and vikalpa it is called Manas; because of its power to decide, Buddhi (discrimination); because it reflects, citta; because it gives expression to divinity, Ahaṅkāra: the form of Manas, Buddhi, citta and Ahaṅkāra is the antaḥkaraṇa, so it has been set forth.

It is because there is the Manas that man got the name maniṣi. ‘Manayeva manuṣyāṇāṃ kāraṇaṃ bandhamokṣayoḥ’: it is through the very saṅkalpa of this Manas that man comes to experience bondage and freedom. As the Manas is, so is the man. Yadbhāvaṃ tadbhavati. In English too, this very thing: So think as the man, so is the man. That is why what we call humanness has come about through the Manas. There is one principle that is the root basis of all these. That very thing has been called Prajñā. Prajñā has been spoken of in many ways: as discernment, as cleverness, as intellect. But these are not its right meanings. Prajñā means nothing but the very seat of Brahman. In the Vedic saying Prajñānaṃ Brahma too this has been declared. So this Prajñā is present equally in the elements of the body, in the antaḥkaraṇa and in the Ātma. Prajñā means constant Integrated awareness. It is this constant Integrated awareness that is called Prajñā. To have this Prajñā is the true value of humanness. This Prajñā is full of Prema. What comes from such Prajñā full of Prema, (Resound), the resound itself, is Satya. This is what they called the echo. The process that comes from this Prajñā full of Prema, that is, the doing of actions, they called Reaction.
