Passage 8

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

They will not hear a good word, though it is told them with all one's heart; but evil talk goes straight to their ears. Can such people ever come to know Satya? Whatever learning they have, what fruit is there?

If good words are spoken, they go in at one ear and out at the other. But for evil talk both ears come ēkyaṅgā and listen. They even hold them like this and listen. Is this the conduct of man? This is not it. You must listen to what is good. For this very reason there is a small story.

Long ago the rākṣasas kept causing many kinds of trouble to those who worshipped the Oṃkāra. The moment the Oṃkāra was uttered with the mouth, these rākṣasas kept making many kinds of mischief in it, so that a foul smell came into it. So these ṛṣis gave up uttering it with the mouth. They tried to hear this sacred sound with the ears. Into their ears too the rākṣasas kept sending evil sounds. They practised the Oṃkāra in the in-breath and the out-breath. The rākṣasas kept making the foul smell worse. The gods held that this was not right. They held this Praṇava in the prāṇa and kept uttering it. The rākṣasas could enter as far as the limbs, but they had no power to enter as far as the prāṇa. Then the rākṣasas could cause them no trouble in it of any kind. The ṛṣis and the gods all held this Praṇava in the prāṇa, in the prāṇa itself, as equal to it, and kept doing their sādhanas. That is the worship of the Praṇava. In this worship of the Praṇava, so that the gods might escape the rākṣasas, they held it in the prāṇa and nourished it. Ayamātma brahma: this Ātma itself is Brahman. So, with the feeling that the Praṇava, the Ātma and Brahman, the three, are one, we must hold God in the prāṇa and worship Him. We must hold Him in the prāṇa and love Him. We must love Him as dearly as life. This is true Bhakti. Outside, only Sai Rām; within, thief Rām. Where is Sai Rām? That Sai Rām must begin from the heart. All these are only ways of acting that deceive the world. Whether in the Sai organisations, or in any other region, or in any other country, or in any other acts of Bhakti, the mind must stay one and the same.

This mind and body is a single chariot. The charioteer is one. You must develop this faith today. There are Fiat cars. There are Ambassador cars. There are Dodge cars. There are Ford cars. There are Benz cars. There are ever so many cars. In the same way, of all these bodies, each body is like a car.
