Passage 8

In plain words

All the actions we do are for purity of citta!

So we must not try to ruin our minds. We must make a proper effort to set the mind right. All these religions are like different roads to one village. Our Bhakti must not take an artificial form. We must follow the right path. We must get down to true practice. We must strive to attain eternal Ānanda. Only then does our sādhana become worthwhile. Otherwise, as the saying goes, ‘the mind on Śiva, the devotion on the sandals’: what use is it to keep our mind somewhere else and turn the rosary? What use is it to sit in dhyāna? So, hearing the teachings, rid yourself of your suffering through them, and through purity of citta try to turn your mind towards God. ‘Cittasya śuddhaye karmaḥ.’ All the actions we do are for purity of citta! And what is that purity of citta for? To experience God with joy. Wherever we go and sit in a queue for our wants, we spread a small mat, or a paper, or something, and sit on it. This body is a form of clay. When even such a body is to sit somewhere, we look for a clean place for it. If God, who is pure, unmoving and selfless, is to sit in our heart, should our heart not be pure? How can God sit in a soiled heart? So, if you want to install God, you must purify your citta. That is the work you must do through sādhana. Through this sādhana we must make every effort to change our feelings. We must not waste our time with nothing more than listening and going out. We must make time and action holy.

The Paramātma, the embodiment of Prema, must be attained through Prema alone

Time is the form of God. To waste time, which is the form of God, is nothing less than to waste divinity! So the sitting you have done all this while, from four o'clock to six, will be worthwhile only when you put into practice some of the things you have heard in this time.
