In plain words

So, again and again: birth, death, birth, death. By following such a path, we do not know in what fearful state, at what time, what kind of state we shall go through. That is why it was called fearful. But how do we understand the verse of the Bhagavad Gītā today? We take svadharma to mean: this man is a kṣatriya, this is kṣatriya dharma. No, no! Kṣatriya dharma and śūdra dharma are not said here about any person at all. The varṇas arose according to guṇa and karma. Those who live with tamoguṇa, with foolishness, are always śūdras, even if they are brāhmaṇas by birth! One who makes his life worthwhile through sāttvic thought of God, through good deeds, good counsel and good thoughts, is a brāhmaṇa, whatever caste he may be in! One who seeks to know Brahman is a brāhmaṇa. So we must not try to belittle humanity by holding on to these differences of race, creed and caste and by arguing back and forth. All are brothers and sisters! Today we must be ready to spread and teach such sacred feelings in society. Only then will the spiritual life grow greatly. The culture of Bhārata is not something gained with a little wealth. The divine form of that Satya which has stood unchanged by time and unfaded by history is the Dharma of Bhārata. It is the Dharma that is eternal truth. A changeless Dharma. A Dharma that no one can put together. Failing to recognise such Satya and Dharma, we ruin all our minds over ‘my religion, your religion’.

All religions together have taught only good; know this and conduct yourselves with understanding; if the minds are good, what religion is bad? Listen, O heroic son of Bhārata!
