In plain words
So, if students today are to live strong and contented, exercise is vital.
Two kinds of weakness envelop the human mind. One is distraction; the second is blankness. As a result, concentration is lost. What is blankness here? When they set out to hear something good, good stories, good talks, by the time they get there the goddess of sleep has wrapped them round. It begins with yawns and travels all the way to the sleep of Kumbhakarṇa. Their eagerness to listen comes to nothing. It is only when they go into some good programme that all such moods come over them. Well then, if they go to the room meaning to sleep, spread the bed and lie down, every kind of thought crowds round them. They lie down, and sleep does not come. They go to listen, and drowsiness comes. So man is ruined both ways. Tamo-guṇa: that is blindness, that is blankness. This distraction and blankness are bringing man low. That is why concentration is vital for man today. If we are to achieve this concentration, games and songs are vital. Through games our health improves. The body becomes sturdy. When the body is healthy, the mind too is healthy.
Games and songs are only for health and joy!
But with what aim should these games and songs be pursued? Games and songs are only for health and joy. Unfortunately, today even games and songs have turned into a business. To play these games, a rate has been fixed for each one: so much. They have set a price. And songs are cultivated only to give concerts! So much for a concert: there too it is all business. When people strain after games and songs not for joy and health but for money, then their health too wastes away. The games and songs of today have been turned into arts.
