In plain words
The authorities too must encourage them, for the children’s sake. They too do not give much care to these games and songs. One small example: yesterday all the children came and pleaded earnestly, “Swami! We have a football and volleyball match; Swami must come and watch,” they said. To please them I went. In volleyball and in football, the players must keep in separate groups. If the ball comes to one’s foot or to one’s hand, one must look for a way to pass it to a player of one’s own side. All of them gather right there at the ball like a swarm of wasps. That is quite wrong. At the ball there should be only two, one from that side and one from this. All the rest must keep well apart. Those who are apart must pass the ball to the one near the goal. Like this they must try to pass the ball to one another, only to those of their own group. There is none of that. This one hits the ball, that one hits it. Where will this ball go? How will a goal come about? They have no such aim at all. Just hitting, just hitting! This is not the aim of games at all. This is not the right method. The physical instructor must forbid these things. I think they too may not know this. Special training must be given on where each child is to be placed. Now, when the ball is in the centre, those on all four sides crowd in there. See how, when leaf-plates are laid out, all the dogs come and crowd round: that is how they go about it. That is quite wrong. This is not the right method for games at all. No one can score a goal, even after playing for hours. Games must give zest to those who play. They must give zest to those who watch. Only then will they have enjoyed it themselves and shared it with others. First one must increase one’s own joy. The joy one has increased must be shared with others. This is the greatness of games.
He who has won the Prema of God can achieve anything
So, in the games to be played from now on, the method must be well understood. Before the game begins, one must look at who is to be where, and how we are to take this ball close to the goal.
