In plain words
If it comes in the belly, you can operate on the belly. If it comes on the back, how can you cut the back? It had spread everywhere. It had come up to the Spinal column. What do you have to do in such a state? Neglect it any longer and it will spread over the whole body. So I set about doing the operation on it. ‘Vaidyo nārāyaṇo hari.’ That is, God is a doctor for the disease of worldly existence; and when this doctor does an operation there have to be some nurses and compounders. A cancer of bad qualities, the Kauravas, had arisen in the land. Neglect it and it spreads, little by little. So, Dharmaja! I was the doctor, I took Arjuna as My compounder, and I did the operation called war. In it forty lakh died. All of them were germs. Do we kill this man so that the worms in the cancer will die, or kill the worms to keep the man alive? What must be done here is to kill these poisonous germs and keep the people alive! All among men who carry bad qualities are like the worms of a cancer. By killing them I have saved a holy land. So this is no sin,” said Kṛṣṇa. That is, even if one does some harm for the sake of helping, it remains help to some extent. But we must ask what kind of help it is. It must be help free of self-interest. However great the help one does with selfishness in the heart, it is nothing but harm! In God there is no self-interest anywhere. Whatever He does, whatever He says, there is no self-interest. Whatever work one does free of self-interest, there is no fault in it at all. All of this is for the welfare of the world! For the good of the world! In the matter of God, to set about questioning, ‘Is it this? Is it that?’ is ignorance itself! To think, ‘If He is God, may He do this? If He is God, may He do that?’ is the mark of ignorance. God may do anything. For He alone is the one who created, the one who protects and the one who destroys! Does anyone ask why God protected him? “He is partial; He is selfish”: a man picks a quarrel that God did not protect him. When He punishes, a man picks a quarrel: why did He punish, is this not wrong, may God punish?
