Passage 9

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

All of them lived with faith in God and gave up their lives. No one recognises their sacrifice. They raise the unintelligent and the selfish to the seat of power, make them rulers, and are ruining the country. In truth, the foreigners did not loot our country's wealth. They spent our money on us alone. But the political leaders of today plunder the wealth of Bhārata and hide it away in other countries. So the young of today must spend our country's wealth for our country. What has become of all the black money is not known to this day. Young people of today, keep the culture of Bhārata in your minds and serve the country. Scientists, however great, are coming back to our country after all their wanderings. So remember this from now on. This faith alone protects the country. Only along the spiritual path can you protect the country. Love of God, fear of sin, morality in society: you must always remember these three.

The Mahābhārata is the fifth Veda

Hanumān is called ‘cirañjīvi’: that means there are no ages for him at all. For Hanumān is the son of Vāyu. Vāyu is one of the five elements. In the same way Bhīma too is the son of Vāyu. The births of the Pāṇḍavas were not natural births. They were births beyond nature. The Mahābhārata was called the fifth Veda. A small example. The Pāṇḍavas were seated in the court. Duryodhana came and said, ‘Khajajā, is it fitting for you to fight with me?’ Everyone was listening. No one knew what it meant. Whom was he calling? For if one of them rose, it was an insult; if all of them rose, it was an insult. The Pāṇḍavas were sunk in doubt. Kṛṣṇa signed to Bhīma to rise. Bhīma rose. Duryodhana's whole plan came to nothing. Duryodhana went away from there. Then Dharmaja asked Kṛṣṇa, saying, ‘I have never heard such a word!’ ‘Kha’ means the sky. ‘Ja’ means the air, which was born in the sky.
