In plain words
That is why you doubt Kṛṣṇa. You made use of Kṛṣṇa as your need required. Now that your need is met, you are keeping Kṛṣṇa at a distance. If you keep Kṛṣṇa at a distance, your whole life will end in defeat. So. Saying ‘Sarva karma bhagavat prītyartham’, offer it to Him,” Bhīṣma taught. And further: “In pleasure and in sorrow, in victory and in defeat, in gain and in loss, saying, ‘There is no one but You’, do not let go of Him. Who do you think Kṛṣṇa is? He is the very form of Viṣṇu. Because He has played and sung with you, do not take Him for an ordinary man. I know His omniscience, His omnipotence and His omnipresence. You are cultivating selfishness. Whatever He tells you, do that. Walk in His footsteps,” he said. When he had taught him in this way, Dharmaja's heart melted. “Grandsire! I am not disobeying Kṛṣṇa's command. But the sins I have committed stand vividly before my eyes. That day, when Kṛṣṇa told me to say ‘Aśvatthāma hataḥ kuñjaraḥ’, I obeyed. I knew it was wrong. But I felt I must not refuse Kṛṣṇa's command. If today I am turning from Kṛṣṇa's command, this is my prārabdha. I have no wish to turn from Kṛṣṇa's command. But the anguish of how I can rule the kingdom after killing so many elders torments me. I have understood that all is made of karma. So, as you command, I will act on Kṛṣṇa's word. But Kṛṣṇa Himself must crown me,” with these words he surrendered to Kṛṣṇa. ‘Kṛṣṇa! If I bowed to Bhīṣma's command without listening to Yours, then the delusion that I am the body is in me. One who has the delusion that he is the body disobeys God's command’: thus he poured out his anguish before Kṛṣṇa. Bowing to Kṛṣṇa's command, Dharmaja is crowned king.
