In plain words
Śānti in what belongs to the body is ādibhautika Śānti. Śānti in matters that belong to the mind is ādhyātmika Śānti. Śānti in matters that belong to the heart is ādidaivika Śānti. Three kinds of sorrow afflict man. Ādibhautika means the diseases of the body. Rid yourself of these diseases. Find relief from the sorrows that come from beasts, from germs, from thieves, from snakes and scorpions. Ādidaivika: Śānti is to bring relief from the troubles that come from the gods, from too much rain, from no rain, from lightning that strikes.
Our studies must rest on our conduct. We must make our conduct pure. We must learn in life the right conduct that helps the many and sets an example. This is true education. "Ādhyātmavidyā vidyānām," it has been said. All subjects, all śāstras, all languages are like little rivers. But ādhyātma-vidyā is like the ocean. Ādhyātma-vidyā is very necessary. The believer says God exists. The atheist says there is no God. In My sight the believer and the atheist are both one. How? The atheist is like a bud. The believer is like a flower that has opened. He is an opened flower, so he enjoys its fragrance. The atheist has not blossomed, so he cannot enjoy the fragrance. That bud too will blossom one day. Both are flowers. The blossomed flower gives fragrance; the unblossomed flower does not. We must not make a difference between the two.
Today's atheist is tomorrow's believer. In Andhra Pradesh there was a communist leader named Sundarayya. He came to Puttaparthi. "I am a communist," he said. I said, "Come you next." He understood well what I had said. Five years later he lost the election. Later he met Me at the women's college in Anantapur. "In the party's name, for my own standing, I took on all these names, Sir. The work You are doing is not something any government, or any person, any one individual could do. With so many powers, as ministers, we are unable to do any good work. We hold back from giving the people's money to the people. You, one single person, are carrying out so much. This is astonishing. This is the biggest miracle." He said so. "What I told you that day was for this very thing; I said, 'Come you next.' Do you understand now?" I said.
So man begins at some level or other. Step by step transformation takes place. Humanity never stays in one state. Changes keep coming. We must not lose heart because of today's conditions. Within these conditions many changes will keep coming in the days ahead.
