Passage 7

In plain words

If we recognise well the unity of this family, where can difference come between one and another? Where is there room for this attachment and hatred? So we must all recognise the truth that we are God's children. The father is one; the children may be any number. But to all of them the father's property is divided equally. We must live in the Ātma alone. We must delight in the Ātma alone. In the Ātma alone must we come to our end. This is the true state of Brahman.

So if we want to recognise divinity, there is no need to go far. It is enough to look at our own body. See how beautifully all the limbs in this body work as one. The eye saw a fruit on a tree. The moment the eye sees it, does the fruit on that tree come to us? It does not. But desire desires it. Because of this desire, the legs move gently towards it. The moment the legs move, we do not get that fruit. Then the waist bends. Just because the waist bends, we do not get the fruit. The hand picks up a stone. Just because it picks up the stone, the fruit does not come. The shoulder takes it and throws. Then the stone strikes and the fruit falls down. The moment it falls, we do not have it. Then the fingers all take hold of the fruit. Just because they hold it, it does not reach the stomach. It takes it up and gives it to the mouth. Just because it is given to the mouth, the mouth does not enjoy it. The mouth tastes it. It examines whether it is good or bad. If it is good it sends it in; if it is bad it sends it out. Then, for it to reach the digestive fire, which limbs did the chief work? Only the cooperation of all the limbs brought this fruit on the tree into the stomach. You see. If any one limb fails to follow the others properly, the fruit on this tree cannot reach the stomach. Only because all these limbs have this harmony, this cooperation, does the fruit reach our stomach. Ah, see how many limbs have helped me and sent it on to me, the digestive fire! With this good feeling, that it must thank all of them, with a good heart, what does that digestive fire do? It sends the pulp out. It supplies the essence to all the limbs.
