Passage 10

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

These are the experiences of the holy pandits of Bhārata, who packed meaning of unfailing power within small words, within small sentences. Tell Me, how small we are in such a state! Into so small a thing they packed a great and endless meaning. We must gain the skill to make our way without wounding anyone or causing any kind of pain. It was said: ‘Skill too is a yoga.’ So human beings must take the greatest care in this matter of sacrifice. In everything. One small matter. We deposited money in the bank. It is our own money. The cheque book is with us. Even so, if you go and ask, the bank manager will not give you money. Give a cheque, and he gives the money. Only when we give one thing can we take another. That is why there is sacrifice even in small, small matters. We went to a shop; if we fling five rupees in the shopkeeper's face, he flings a handkerchief in ours. If you do not pay the money, the cloth will not come to us, will it? In this worldly life, only when we give up one thing are we able to receive another. Then how can we receive this that is endless, of supreme worth, full of power, if we make no sacrifice for it? It cannot be had. So only if we give up unrest do we gain Praśānti. Only when we give up the many do we attain the One. Only when difference goes do we gain oneness. For every single thing we must make sacrifice. There is no way to go without sacrifice. That is why human nature came to be in sacrifice. This sacrifice is found in man alone; it is not seen anywhere in other beings.

Embodiments of Prema! You have made great sacrifices and come to this place with eagerness and encouragement of many kinds. But we must recognise that the divine principle is what matters most to us. Things keep happening in life. So many things keep happening. But whatever happens at a time, that is what we must attend to then. This is called Present. This Present is not an ordinary Present; it is omniPresent. The fruit of the future is in it. The fruit of the present is in it. The fruit of the past is in it. You see!
