In plain words
Today's physical studies and scientific studies are making man dependent on others. It is making him a slave. The student who should become a master is turning out a servant today. We must show selflessness, humility and simplicity to be the chief marks of education. The consciousness of the Bhāratīyas is a principle made of morality, honesty and natural good conduct. For this, following four kinds of paths, we must recognise them as four pillars standing for this mansion of learning. The first is self-control. The second is self-confidence. The third is one's own effort. The fourth is selflessness. Self control, Self confidence, Self-support, Self sacrifice. These four alone are the chief pillars of education.
Today's students are forgetting the self itself; then where is control, where is support, where is sacrifice? Forgetting our very own nature, trusting only the world and losing our humanness, we must not shape ourselves only into the demonic or the beastly and stop there. We must shape ourselves into complete human beings. Today we may not have the strength and skill to protect the country by any other path. Satya alone is the true strength. If we protect Satya, we become the ones who have protected the world itself. Man today has come to know a great deal about worldly matters. He has gone on learning many kinds of theories. He is carrying out many researches in science. But can they name even one quality that he has kept standing as a man? What is the humanness he has achieved? How do human qualities stand in him? How many have they nourished? How many are they showing forth as an ideal? No educated man gives a right answer to these questions. In the science of today, without Viveka, without humility, forgetting humanness, they are bringing about many kinds of advances with the mere aim of somehow feeding the world. He who truly had Viveka itself cannot recognise how all the machines he himself has made, and all the bombs, are wiping out the world. By building a bomb that burns the whole world to ashes and using it, can even the one who built it survive in this world? Can even the country that built it stand safe? Without even this much inquiry, without Viveka, how do they go on creating these machines?
