But when we connect the recorder to the current, the words and songs are heard clearly. In the same way God, 'īśvaras sarva bhūtānām', God pervades everywhere. In our body too He is everywhere. If we cut the body into pieces, asking where He is in this body, God is not seen. But when you put the plug called your mind into what is called thinking of God, God appears to us. In that way, without making any effort for God, people say, 'Where is God? If He is there, He is not to be seen!' 'We went to the moon, and even there God is not seen,' they say. They went relying on machines. But we must rely on mantras. If that divine Prema is not in us, God, who is everywhere, is not seen wherever we go. A plane travels at a speed of so many hundreds of miles an hour. But if that plane has no petrol, it will not move forward even an inch. In the same way, if there is no petrol of God's Name in us, we cannot move forward even an inch; when we put the petrol of God's Name into ourselves, we can attain the vision of God. But we spread this Prema over Nature. We do not spread it over God. When we pour this petrol, the principle of Prema, into the tank in the plane, the plane runs; but if we pour it somewhere else, how will the plane run?
Another small example. Many of you will know it. A cow gives birth to a calf. The moment it is born, it is covered with unclean matter. Only when the unclean matter is taken off does the calf get up. The mother cow licks and licks the unclean matter and eats up the uncleanness. As soon as the uncleanness is gone, the calf gets up at once. In the same way, so long as there is uncleanness in us, we lie at the very bottom like the calf; as soon as the uncleanness goes, we rise.
How are we to put away this uncleanness? That is bhajan, thinking of God, Prema for God. Then, becoming ever pure and awakened, you will try to recognise the principle in its many forms. Through such small things themselves, easy paths are found to delight in God, experience Him and share Him with others. What we need today is not a political change. It is not an economic change. It is not a change in education; a change in the mind is needed. If your mind does not change, however high a position you reach, there is no use at all. Fame and honour may be great. But this is only for the world. If we wish to move and melt God's heart, sacred feelings must be in us. We must make our heart holy with the feeling of offering to God. Before this, we must fill our heart with Prema. But today we are filling our heart with base feelings.
