In plain words
'I want the army alone,' he said. Arjuna got the engine. Duryodhana got the compartments. Without the engine, what use are any number of compartments? Duryodhana had eleven lakh compartments. But the engine (Kṛṣṇa) was in Arjuna's hands.
Students! Note it well. The Mahābhārata is the fifth Veda; what is not in the Bhārata is nowhere else. They would not spend even one moment without Kṛṣṇa; Kṛṣṇa went to Dhṛtarāṣṭra as envoy to make peace. Then Dhṛtarāṣṭra asked. 'Kṛṣṇa! Both are equal to You, are they not! Why so much partiality?' he said. 'O blind king! The two will never be equal to Me. Recognise the close bond of kinship between the Pāṇḍavas and Me,' He said. The Pāṇḍavas always take Kṛṣṇa's command on their heads and carry it out. Without Kṛṣṇa there are no Pāṇḍavas. Without the Pāṇḍavas there is no Kṛṣṇa. A small example. Dharmarāja is like the head. Arjuna is like the shoulders. Bhīma is like the belly. Nakula and Sahadeva are the feet. These five together are one physical body, but in this body Kṛṣṇa is like the heart; without the heart the body has no worth. So such is the bond of the Pāṇḍavas and Kṛṣṇa. 'Kariṣye vacanaṃ tava,' he said. 'Swami! I have nothing other than Your word. What You tell … I will do,' he said.
In life there are hardships and losses, but he who pushes them aside and goes forward is the brave one. You must have a mind that does not waver in the least and a vision that is not deluded, and try to proclaim evenness. Accomplish well the work that has come to you. Give your parents joy. Offer the world an ideal life. There is just one thing you must give us! If, because you studied in the Institute, you win the name 'How brave this student is, how wise, how exemplary!', that itself is enough for us. To bring a good name is what I want. When a son is born, they hand out sugar or sweets. But it is not so for Swami. The day you win a good name, that day itself is the birthday. The father's joy in a son is not born the moment the son is born. When people see that son and praise him, that is the day of the father's joy in his son.' The day people praise him as a good man, on that very day the father knows the joy of a son. If you are to become people of such good qualities, you must become people of few words. You must put away wicked feelings. You must restrain your speech. You must take care not to listen to evil. If someone keeps speaking evil and you sit listening, he keeps on speaking evil. Take care not to speak evil. Take care not to listen to evil. Take care not to look at evil. Then evil thoughts will not come into you. When evil thoughts do not come into you, then you cannot do evil.
