In plain words

Students! Embodiments of Prema! Where is God? Where there are no evil thoughts, no evil listening and no evil deeds, there alone God dwells; if we rid ourselves of the five faults, we ourselves become the Paramātma. Our life shines through good qualities alone. So we must study for the sake of good qualities. But we must not give up good qualities for the sake of study. Studies that do not foster good qualities are no studies at all. Reflect on it well. In today's studies moral value is sinking completely. We have our dhobi. He does not write down anywhere how many of the children's clothes he takes away. He keeps in memory: so many clothes of such-and-such a boy, so many clothes of such-and-such a boy. The educated boy writes down that he has given so many clothes. One banian, one pair of drawers, one pair of trousers, one shirt: we write down even these few clothes. But the washerman writes none of that. And yet he brings the clothes back correctly. So the washerman is better than the educated man.

In education we must increase common sense and General knowledge. I have said it many times. The one who said the earth has a power of attraction was Newton. He was very clever. Whenever you saw him he was thinking. He had cleverness beyond limit, but his General knowledge was zero. He would stay in his room, always carrying out some research. He had a pet cat. When he shut the door and stayed in the room, this cat would keep crying mew, mew from outside. This was a distrubance to him; he had a hole made in the door so that the cat could come in whenever it liked. Some days later the cat had a kitten. For the little kitten he told them to make another hole. What did the carpenter say then? 'Sir, cannot both come and go through the same one hole? Cannot any number of cats go through one hole?' he said. 'Alas, I have not got the General knowledge this carpenter has,' he thought. General knowledge is hard to gain. We can gain Special knowledge in one way or another. But if we are to live in the world, General knowledge is very necessary. What lets us enjoy true joy in everyday life is General knowledge. This is the Gift of God; everything is God's grace. Many people want to learn music. But when they start to sing, many false notes come. While they sing songs, the rhythm slips. When they follow the rhythm, the note slips. They try to learn, but it does not come to them; this is the grace of God. Some are born painters at their very birth. Some become singers.
