Passage 5

In plain words

Students! The state of today's world is not unknown to you. You must recognise this and act on it: that the students alone are fit to shape aright the Bhārata of today, wasting away in turmoil and unrest of many kinds. Learning is not merely acquaintance with books. With this bookish knowledge we can achieve nothing. Practical knowledge is needed. Before this there must be Discrimination knowledge. Not only this, General knowledge is needed too. More than the knowledge we learn in textbooks, General knowledge and common sense are essential to man. So, man means: awareness is man. We must know everything. That itself is Sat Cit Ānanda. Sat means being, Cit means awareness. From the oneness of these two, Ānanda comes to us. Sat is water. Cit is sugar. The sugar is on one side. The water is on the other side. But if these two stay apart, there is no use in them. When we make these two one, they turn into pānaka. That itself is Ānanda. Sat, the Paramātma, and Cit, the jīvātma: the oneness of these two is the divine Ātma called Ānanda.

What should the qualities of the divine Ātma be like?

Bliss of Brahman, giver of supreme joy, the absolute, knowledge embodied, Beyond the pairs of opposites, like the sky, the goal of Tat tvam asi and the like, One, eternal, spotless, unmoving, the witness of every mind, Beyond all states, free of the three guṇas: to You, the Sadguru, I bow.

Those sacred, divine qualities must grow in every student. God is One alone. The One, the ruler, the inner Ātma of all beings. That itself is: My Ātma is the Ātma of all beings. So when you look on every person as the divine Ātma …, there will be no troubles at all. Students! You are not something bound up with the five elements. You are not a part of Prakṛti. Mamaivāṃśo jīvaloke jīvabhūtas sanātanaḥ. ‘Mamaivāṃśo: all of you are none other than My part,’ the Bhagavad Gītā proclaims beautifully. So you must regard yourselves as parts of the Divine. Mere brotherhood of man, even fatherhood of God, is not so great. Brothers, brothers, for the sake of property, go as far as the Supreme Court and bring ruin on their own families; so many are there who have done this. So brotherhood of man belongs to ancient times. But now, in the present situation, the feeling of the one Ātma is by far the best. I and you are one: we must foster a broad feeling of this kind. As for this, God's grace is won only through a contemplation of God, through prayer to God. Students! You must go on fostering in yourselves the three, a trinity, that are the values of humanness. 1st, love of God, fear of sin, morality in society. Foster these; that is enough.
