So why do we need these forms of show and Ahaṅkāra? The whole Kali age shines with show.
Whatever is done, it is self-interest, one's own advantage. We must experience selfless Prema. God did not come down as an Avatāra to teach you something, or to remove your troubles, or to raise you to a higher state, or to bring you the vision of God, or further to take away all your troubles. All of them: if we share the one Prema, any number of blessings and joys come about in that very sharing. Recognise the truth that, as for God's coming down as an Avatāra, He comes down to teach Prema. If we love one another, attachment and hatred will not remain in us at all. They will run away. Today the child does not love the father. The younger brother does not love the elder brother. The younger sister does not love the elder sister. What is this life? It has become simply an artificial life. If children born of one womb cannot love one another, what are these lives for? How can one who cannot love his own parents, his own brothers and sisters, ever love the world? How can one who does not love the world itself love God? So today we must make the effort to grow this Prema greatly. This is not something gained simply by effort. When, with faith, one enquires well into one's own nature, Prema arises of its own accord. Embodiments of the divine Ātma! Already you are wasting much of your time. Three quarters you are offering to physical life alone. Then what are you making fruitful to attain divinity? What has passed has passed, what has passed has passed. At least from now on, guard this time well, and do not waste this time only for these: my children, my daughters-in-law, my mothers, my fathers. These feelings must be there. That duty must be carried out. But staying only as an instrument, you must follow your own path. No one belongs to anyone. That is why, for all, there is the one God alone. We must grow in that faith. Without that faith, however much money there is, what is the use?
I see crores of people. There is money, as much as they want; how? It lies like stones in the earth. There is no Śānti in the mind; money with no Śānti in the mind is no better than earth. When we have gained Śānti of mind, that itself is wealth, every kind of riches. Even one coin earned in such a way is equal to a crore.
