In plain words
If we put our money in the bank and want to take our money out, the money comes to us only if we write a cheque. Only when we give the cheque to them does the money come to us from them. If we go to a shop and give the shopkeeper five rupees, he gives us a handkerchief. For anything at all, it is only when one gives that one is fit to receive, is it not? Ah! Under the sway of the Kali age today there is one way traffic: only taking, no giving. This is artificial Bhakti. From today you must root out such artificial Bhakti and develop proper Bhakti, right Bhakti, Bhakti full of Prema. This is not for Me. It is for the world. It is for you. You yourselves can become good. Through you, you can make the world good. Only then: Lokās samastā sukhino bhavantu. All can live in happiness.
Embodiments of Prema! Whatever work there may be, set it aside and enter into the remembrance of the Name. Some sinners do not go to a temple even once a month. What work do these people have? What work have they, but the work of not going to the temple, the work of grazing donkeys? And then they call themselves devotees, devotees. It is a shame to call themselves that. Many elders too are behaving in that way. Great men too are behaving in that way. What sway of Kali is this? No, no: the Name alone is the equal right of all. We need no one's teaching. We need no one's upadeśa. The inner Ātma itself is teaching you. That is your mantra. It comes from within 21,600 times a day. As 'Soham, soham'. What is the inner meaning of this soham? So.... Ham.... That is I. It is I who am God. I am God. Forgetting this upadeśa, we go off here and there: money in the hand, a mantra in the ear. Are these upadeśas? No one has the authority to give the Name of God as upadeśa. God Himself, being Himself the one who gives upadeśa: to whom does He give it? So go on uttering whatever Name comes to you. Follow the pure, true path.
