In plain words
What is this sin, Swami?” he asked. The guru answered. “My son! Do you know what is inside it? There is air. That is Ahaṅkāra. So long as that is there. There is no escaping the kicks of the six inner enemies, desire, anger, greed, pride and envy. All these evil qualities keep kicking it with their feet all the time. In this game the six enemies are on one side; on the other side, Satya, Dharma, Prema, Śānti, Ahiṃsā and Prakṛti, these six dharmas; and both sides keep kicking it, the football called life, the football called Ahaṅkāra. At each end, this side and that, there is a goal. That is, “to enjoy this world, the learning that wins gold; to enjoy the world beyond, Brahma vidyā”: Dharma vidyā and Brahma vidyā are the two goals. If the ball goes between these two, it is a goal. If it misses these two and goes beyond, it is out. So our life, kicked about and kicked about, must not go beyond this Dharma and this Brahman. We must move within their bounds, submitting to them.
Embodiments of the divine Ātma! Do not think of humanness as something somewhere, of some other kind. Divinity is humanness; daivaṃ mānuṣa rūpeṇa. God in human form is what matters most. Today, out of sheer foolishness, the living are made to suffer and the lifeless are worshipped. So to worship God means to strengthen the unity that is everywhere. God is everywhere. He is in the stone, He is in the pebble, He is in the tree, He is in the anthill, He is in the hillock. We must believe in the oneness that is in all things. We must give each thing its proper place. We must not cast away a single thing. We must not revile anyone. That is the chief quality in us. Only when we develop such a noble quality does the citta become pure. For one without purity of citta, whatever he does is of no use. So, longing for the principle of Prema within us, for Prema's sake, we must make a complete offering to Prema itself. Love is God. Live in Love. Take refuge in Prema alone, regard Prema alone as God, and offer yourselves up in Prema alone. I have said it many times.
