Passage 5

In plain words

Kṛṣṇa! You are God, and yet this much partiality? Could You not bring even one of my sons back to life? So saying, she abused Kṛṣṇa. Then Kṛṣṇa says with a smile, “Did your gaze fall on even one of your sons?” So he asked. You yourself never looked at your sons. How could your sons, who never won your gaze, win God's gaze? So first of all we must love the mother. We must come under our mother's Prema. Only then can one come under the true Prema of God. We must honour the mother, saying, “Let your mother be God to you.” Rāmacandra said the same. Jananī janmabhūmiś ca svargād api garīyasi. My mother is My heaven. He said there is no heaven greater than the mother. In that case, what are we following? What do we recognise of our culture of Bhārata? We do not recognise it at all: however many theories you may have learnt, however much scientific research you may have done, however many physical comforts you may have enjoyed, what matters is how many qualifications you have earned as a human being. There is nothing. In words you are a hero, but in deeds you have become a zero. This is not humanness. A human being must truly live as a human being. The supreme purpose of a human being lies in the very word “mānava”. Mā-na-va. Mā means ignorance. Na means without, and va means to conduct oneself. That is, to conduct oneself without ignorance. He alone is a mānava. But today our whole life is sinking in ignorance alone.

Cittaśuddhi is important

Today our life is rotting, wasting away and stinking. This is not humanness. It is not enough for us to be pure in the outward way. Purity of heart is needed. Cittaśuddhi is needed. All the karmas we do are the basis of cittaśuddhi. Karma is for the purification of the citta. Of what use is it to do so many karmas? We all remain rocks. In life, many hardships and losses come before us. He who bears up under all these, pushes through and goes forward is the true human being. Blows and jolts keep striking us, but we must not be frightened.
