In plain words

Is it for Siri that we are born? No. No, we were born for Hari. If there is the feeling for food with no feeling for the Ātma at all, such a fellow is nothing but a sinner. Try to recognise the Satya that we are human beings. Not beasts. If, like a beast, we eat, roam about and enjoy ourselves, what difference is there between the human and the animal? For one house you may build ten houses. For one dress you may get ten dresses. For one car you may get ten cars. When you die, will a car come with you, will a dress come? What comes with you is just two things, your merit and your sin. There is no use sitting and weeping on that day, so you must set all the learning you have learnt on the path that makes it worthwhile.

One day this Prahlāda renounced every attachment and set out with his ministers, wanting to recognise the Satya that lies within this world. “Is the conscious principle to be seen anywhere in this inert world?” he said. Near the river Kāverī, among many hills, he was travelling on foot. There a man lay fallen, absorbed in samādhi. His form did not show clearly. It was covered with dust and dirt. A python might move, but this man did not move. He had become as still as that. Prahlāda questioned him. “Great soul! A man who lives amid so many pleasures, so many joys, so many comforts does not come to this state of being so free of care. In this very renunciation such enjoyment is coming to you. What is your name!” He was Ajagara. Ajagara said: “My son! My name is Ajagara. Like you, I enjoyed great pleasures and joys. I came to think there was no happiness that is Satya in them. Whatever kind of joy comes, the sorrow opposed to it keeps chasing it. Joy the size of an atom. Sorrow the size of a mountain. I have known endless sorrow. But today I have offered my all to God. The Ānanda I know today I never knew at any time. There is no pain of ‘I have not’. There is no ‘I’. There is no dislike that says ‘I do not want it’. There is no desire that says ‘I want it’. Let things happen just as He wills. Because I am in this state, I am always in Ānanda,” he said. Prahlāda was one who tried to recognise such a Satya. In the world, God's grace of this kind is not something money can obtain. It does not come with learning. It is not something one can seize with power. That is why we can gain it through good deeds alone.

Wherever you go, you must not forget the feeling, “I am a human being.” “I am not a beast. I am the master. I am not a slave. I am not a bondsman, to believe everything others say and go into it.
